Development Log 4 - Rhys Griffiths
This Dev Log covers the concept art I did. These took a huge amount of work - an entire day for each one.
First I've shown the thumbnails I started with. At this stage the composition, light and shadow were blocked out. My main concern at this point was to establish the look of the texture and materials that everything was made from, as well as any architecture details, so that Tom could start modelling and texturing ASAP.
What would make this environment feel lived in is wear and tear from rain, combat, dirty and grunge, moss and mould etc overgrowing the architecture. I also chose a variety of brick and stone materials to break away from just one tillable stone pattern on every building - so designing the transitions between the materials was important.
